I met Ellen in my junior year when we sang in the choir at Central High School. Although we never close friends, I admired her contralto voice. She and Juanita did a great job singing Bloody Mary. Through the years I have performed in various musicals, but I still think Ellen and Juanita were the best altos. Mr. Bates was very blessed to have had these marvelous altos in the choir. I still remember her singing with her guitar Peter, Paul and Mary 's songs and Joan Baez' song. I wish I had connected with her, because I have been to Phoenix many times in the last couple of years. We could have talked of the wonderful times we all shared being part of such a great choir at Central High. Richard, I think it is great that you are honoring your friend in such a special way by this website.

    God bless you,

    Leah Gallardo Switzer

Thank you so much for posting here. And thank you to those who haven’t posted but did contact me and gave me the opportunity to speak with you on the phone, about Ellen.

I still miss Ellen more than anyone can possibly imagine.

And this website is as much therapeutic for me as a way to honor Ellen.

I moved in to a new apartment after living at my old address for fourteen years.

Ellen would have adored my new apartment and it is somewhat bitter sweet, every time I do something, cook something Ellen would have liked, opened a bottle of wine, I think it is just not as good as it was when I did these things with Ellen here. Just not as much fun.

I love living in this new apartment more than I have ever liked living anywhere in my whole life. It just is not complete without Ellen to share it with.

So, yes, I am very happy here, but, it will never be as much fun as it should be, because Ellen is not here to share it with me.

Again, thank you all for the opportunities you all give me to keep the memory of Ellen alive in my heart.

P.S. Reminds me of one of Ellen’s favorite sayings about some food or yummy wine, “this is the best thing I have ever put in my whole mouth.”
